Episode 197
Bumblebrag, Out Of The Gutter and Into The Church
Show broadcast on 9 December 2017
John is good with old men. It makes sense. Despite providing a 2 hour closing set for the final Dancing with Dave in London, Elis and John (John less so) were well up for the Saturday afternoon vibe. Is it about the people, or is it about Counting Crows? There's a very strong Paper Review, a new branch of Humblebrag, some lovely emails and another Ronnie O'Sullivan update. No one else is doing them.
John's introduction of Elis
"To my left a man who, when asked on Desert Island Discs what John Robins means to him, gave this reply: "Bruce Grobelaar dressed as Zorro. It's his cheek bones, his beautiful stubble, the thick hair he obviously has but he cuts it short, doesn't he. There's a slight ambiguity about how sexy he could be, I think.""
Conversations and riffs
Last night the pair DJ-ed at the last London 'Dancing With Dave' ('All My Friends'). Again, more debate about the appropriateness of John's setlist choice.
Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review
Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.
The best celebrity memoirs. The Mirror product of the week: the hook. Unwanted gadget Christmas presents.
John's Shame Well
John frees another listener of their shame.
Being caught having a symbolic burning of a photo of your ex-girlfriend... as a child.
Made-Up Games
Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.
Rock, Paper, Whatever: A variation of familiar game in which you both swap rock, paper, scissors for whatever you want. Then you debate which thing would win.
The 'Keep It Session' Sessions
A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.
