Episode 178
Flesh-Coloured Pouch, Digital Gravestone & The Onion of Football
Show broadcast on 15 July 2017
Robins in a ratty mood is Robins at his best. A cracking podcast this week and plenty of talking points - How old is this coin? How unsung is the onion? Is Elis the people's prince? All of this will be discussed, at length - plus - A quallo Paper Review, a hammer load of Humblebrags and an exciting idea for the musical collaboration of the century.
John's introduction of Elis
"To my left, a man who Aled Jones said of: "He was by far the best treble choir boy I've ever heard. We thought it might last forever but at age 15 they dropped- and how!""
Conversations and riffs
Elis filmed a nude shower scene this week for 'Josh' with a soapy bum and flesh-coloured pouch.
The guys discuss a hypothetical Killers-Queen superband called The Killers Queen. Their songs would be mash-ups of Killers and Queen song titles.
Elis gives an amazing radio segway: "Anyway, talking of... music..."
Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review
Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.
UK survey says having a platonic meal or drink alone with a member of the opposite sex who is not your spouse is broadly fine, whereas Americans think differently. In the Times on Sunday, Giles Coren has bought some sandals. Pairing beer with food.
John's Shame Well
John frees another listener of their shame.
A couple's passionate love-making is accidentally broadcast through the baby monitor to the parents sitting in the living room.
Betabet
Elis and John compete to name as many things as possible on a theme in alphabetical order in 30 seconds.
The last ever! John currently leads 16-5 but Vin and Elis decide this final game is worth 12 points to the winner, although John is having none of it. The topic is the alphabet - but the lads play a cheeky prank on John. Elis wins 26-25 and is temporarily declared by Vin to have won the series 17-16 and be the People's Champion (or as John puts it, "the nation's favourite failure").
Made-Up Games
Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.
