Episode 125
Grilliant, Playing Royal Blood To Shakespeare, & #DragAlong
Show broadcast on 9 July 2016
John & Elis take on Advertising this week before discussing Elizabethan playwrights (seriously), but the big story of this week's podcast (other than the reunion of the whole EJ-JR-PD-PV team) was #DragAlong. Plus Humble Brag Of The Week, Winner Plays On, a special Textual Healing and Email Of The Species.
Podcast intro
John reads out a PCD poem and summarises an incredibly complex Pub Porn submitted by a listener.
John's introduction of Elis
"To my left is a man described by Joe Ledley as 'step-son to the Welsh squad'."
Conversations and riffs
Wales' fairytale journey at Euro 2016 ended in the semi-finals during the week. Meanwhile, John made his terrestrial TV debut on Mock The Week but Elis was too busy to watch it as he was enjoying a play about IVF.
John has come up with another marketing idea for Radio X involving the station's big hitting presenters blowing a kiss ('X'). They then market the George Foreman Grill ("It's grilliant") and bananas.
John is off to see Take That tonight. They referenced coffee before it was popular. Producer Dave reveals that he's always liked Take That, and there's comparison with Oasis. John gets some tips on how to join in at the concert.
Text-in topic
Listeners text and tweet during the show on this week's topic.
What's the strangest event you've gone to in order to support a loved one? "What ya been doin', why did ya go, and what was it like?" #DragAlong
Textual Healing
A listener calls the show with a problem.
A PCD is going on a first date with a girl who doesn't drink but the PCD hates eating in front of other people. So drinks or dinner is out of the question and they are looking for other ideas.
Humblebrag
More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.
Sick of people asking you if you are a model.
Winner Plays On
Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.
The Lord of the Rings (John) v Nigel Farage (Elis). John wins 4-3.
Email of the Species
Listeners' emails into the show.
More online review websites need to include a rating for vibe.
The 'Keep It Session' Sessions
A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.
