Episode 109

Le Roast Beef, The Correct Way To Be Arrested & Under Pressure

Show broadcast on 19 March 2016

News from France this week, plus the return of Tick Off A Taste! And don't miss John's lecture on the writing and recording of Under Pressure. Plus Textual Healing, Humble Brag Of The Week, Winner Plays On, Elis' Gig Diaries, and of course more Keep It Session Sessions.

Podcast intro

Two PCDs in a relationship used to listen to the podcast together but have now broken up. Who gets Elis and John in the breakup?

A PCD is living a very Robins-themed life.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left is a man who, since 2004, has not been allowed within two miles of Colwyn Bay city centre. "

Conversations and riffs

Some great riffs this week! Elis asks John how many police officers it would take to restrain John and put him in the back of a police van, which leads to a complicated answer because (a) John would actually like to get arrested so he can live out his 'Traffic Cops' fantasy and (b) John is preoccupied with trying to get his mortgage application accepted, which is causing him a lot of stress.

The podcast charted at no. 35 in the French podcasts chart. Elis and John imagine what French PCDs sound like and what French philosophers would be like on a stag do.

Elis and Producer Dave sabotage John's long factual introduction to 'Under Pressure' by Queen and David Bowie.

Textual Healing

A listener calls the show with a problem.

An anonymous caller is half-Welsh and half-English and struggling with his sense of identity.

Elis' Gig Diaries

Elis reads aloud from diaries he kept during his early stand-up days.

Superstition potato, asthma pump and alloy wheels. Geordie financial year! A sketch about Dangerous Dave Pearce getting the Radio 1 drive time slot in the '90s.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

A humblebrag about keeping wine in the cellar leads to a riff from Elis and John about keeping your ex-wife's stuff in your garage because neither she nor 'Steve' her new idiot boyfriend will bother coming around to collect it.

A Mum's Net humblebrag about your children's nanny not understanding how expensive some of the organic food is that you are letting her eat from your kitchen while you are out.

Winner Plays On

Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.

Jonathan Davies the Welsh rugby player in the 1980s and 1990s (Elis) v Captain Beefheart (John). John wins 4-3.

Tick Off a Taste

The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.

'Chilly Devil' hot sauces. Elis needs to eat a bounty bar afterwards to sooth his tastebuds and starts sounding like Alan Partridge: "Ooh... It's perfect for kid's parties." He's then left shouting random phrases and questions in the background as John tries to plug his upcoming gigs.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.

The Fleur de Lys (Elis)
